Feel Like You’re on the Precipice?  Here’s What to Do…

A lot of my friends, loved ones, business owner colleagues, and myself are feeling the shifts in life, emotions and beyond.

Do you feel it too?

Something bigger or different is on the horizon.

Some describe it as feeling on the precipice.

Sometimes it feels like the pressure of a stone being turned into a diamond.

Maybe you feel a big change coming…

A new opportunity starting…

You’re on the brink of a huge shift to the way you live, work or do business…

I want you to know that I am with you on this! I, too, feel the same wavelength of being just on the precipice in life and in my business.

I’ll be real with you. I recently had an unwelcome financial surprise in my business due to an old avoidance pattern popping up, with a painful price tag as its consequence.

Once that happened, I had a good cry, and determined that I would prioritize working through my next level of growth in this area. I had avoided making smaller payments on something, telling myself it would be fine to wait and then had a big bill show up that felt unexpected because I hadn’t been clear on why or had a strategy in place to proactively address it.

This pattern of avoidance wasn’t new for me-I’ve done this before. With time, I thought I was improving on this pattern and kept it moving, focusing on everything else that required my attention.

Because I had rationalized waiting, it didn’t feel like avoidance. It felt different than repeating a similar past unhelpful pattern. BEWARE of how our brain will try to create a more convenient out!

Then when the painful consequence occurred (because consequences do happen when you avoid!) I fervently prayed to God just to give me the tools to fix it.

As I reflected, I saw that that I did have the tools, and I just needed to see the bigger lesson very clearly.

The lesson was my need to practice the three things that had been required of me all along: patience, obedience, and growth. These are the strong foundations that will bring my next level, and it doesn’t have to be that hard.

As Frank Sonnenberg, award-winning author said: “Lessons in life will be repeated until they are learned.”

Whether you’re going through a period of growth or change, I highly recommend the following strategy:

  1. Make time for reflection. True blank space. Connect in nature, through body movement. Have as few inputs as possible (social media, screens, etc). What do you observe is happening for you, to you etc right now?

  2. Get clear.  To expand on your general reflections, get even clearer. Pose the questions: What is the message here? What is the lesson I can learn now? What themes are present that I’m repeating that I want to shift out of? What do I TRULY want?

  3. Take the small (or large) consistent actions that can underline your commitment and discipline toward your goal/future. What can I implement now that leads to the next level?

  4. Take care of yourself. Transformation and growth can feel hard y'all, like true growing pains. When we are in a process of growth and learning we are actually creating new neural pathways in our brain. The brain has the ability to change and reorganize itself in response to new experiences and learning. This phenomenon is known as neuroplasticity. Research has shown that when individuals engage in learning activities or acquire new skills, the brain forms new neural connections and modifies existing ones. If you want to learn more on this, peruse the work of Michael Merzenich, a neuroscientist who has extensively studied neuroplasticity and its implications. Be patient in the feeling states knowing that these will ebb and flow. Work on building up your psychological flexibility. Check in with yourself every day: ask what your mind/body/soul wants and needs daily.

  5. Get support navigating this journey. Someone who can support you in reflection and mirror back your wisdom. Who can help you to clarity when things feel murky. Who can encourage you when you feel doubt.
